With 40 mixtapes, and 12 studio albums to his name, Curren$y has somewhat quietly been the only constant in hip hop – a genre that has recently undergone some very serious changes due to the advent of Future and Young Thug’s success.
Curren$y’s career, which began 14 years ago, has been a thing of beauty. He is the quintessential example of an artist staying to true to themselves and not giving in to hype, trends or label demands. Because of that, he’s been a part of ten different labels, including Roc-A-Fella, Def Jam and currently Atlantic/ Jet Life. Known for his laid back, stoner delivery, Curren$y first signed with Master P’s No Limit Record’s in 2002. Followed by signing to Cash Money Record’s/ Young Money Entertainment in 2004 with Lil Wayne. In 2011 he signed with Warner Bro’s and began his imprint Jet Life Recordings which currently has a roster of 10 artists including Smoke DZA. This year alone he has released eight different mixtapes, one for each month of 2016. Hopefully the monthly trend continues and come August we get another tape from the New Orleans legend.
A lot of things have changed since 2002, but Curren$y hasn’t. He’s still smoking a staggering amount of weed, driving insanely nice classic cars and putting out high quality raps at an alarming rate.
