What music did you listen to growing up?
My parents and family influenced a lot of what I listened to growing up. My mom introduced me to Erykah Badu and Prince, while my Dad introduced me to funk and smooth jazz. I also heavily listened to 90s r&b, Janet, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, the list goes on.
If you had to describe your style, how would you?
My style is a simple version of 90s Chanel haute couture. I love looking sexy and chic with a Afro futurist twist. I like wearing an outfit that I can either dress up or down in the same day.
What can you tell us a bit about your new project?
This project represents me coming into myself as a young woman. It’s called “Lotus” because it tells a story of my struggles and what I had to go through to become who I am today. A lotus flower emerges from murky water and blossoms into a beautiful flower. The overall vibe of the project is upbeat. I want people to learn, feel good, dance and let go of whatever it is that’s bothering them.
What’s the story behind “Too Cold”? Why the name? Why is it the first to be released?
I choose the name Too Cold because the song is about a girl realizing she is not invested in her relationship with her partner anymore. She also realizes that she can do better and should not settle and is basically admitting to him that her feelings froze over. This song is pure honesty.
I choose to release this first because I feel that our generation lacks communication and honesty with each other. It would eliminate problems if people actually told people how they really feel, no matter how f**kd up the truth is.
Who are you? And how would you like to be remembered?
I’m a multi faceted artist who wants to be remembered by my music, art, and lifestyle in general. I want to be remembered as the artist that can do wrong and steady pushes the boundary to new heights.
