Worm.
Worm
by Dustin Radke
Think of it, babe, if I were a worm
I would probably love you much more.
You could treat me the same,
You could live without shame,
You could bug me but I’d just ignore.
What's a grudge to a worm?
I think we would confirm
It’d be useless for us to keep score.
If I were a worm, I'd be home in the dark
And would hate to be brought to the light.
Love would truly be blind,
And then soon we would find
There was never a need for my sight.
You could order and bark,
But we’d still feel the spark
‘Cause I’d rather eat dirt than us fight.
When I am a worm, having no need for art,
I'll be happy with much less to do.
I won’t waste all my time
Thinking only in rhyme.
You’ll be all that my life will pursue.
You could cut me apart,
But I’ll still have a heart
So I’ll wriggle my way back to you.
Babe, when I am a worm, love will not be a task.
So with joy you will soon make a plan
To exchange human blood
For a life in the mud
As quick as you possibly can.
In the soil, we’ll bask
Never thinking to ask,
Would you love me if I were a man?
