The ‘Queer’ Aesthetic

At their core, the ‘queer’ aesthetic norms we recognize today: women in tucked shirts and cuffed jeans with unheeled shoes and men in floral suits on the red carpet are palatable, slight variations on trends that do represent increasing acceptance of visible gayness and gender nonconformity, but only to the extent that it minimally challenges heterosexual expectations.
