Things to Consider: How far does your dollar go?

Spending with a good conscience

Words by Felton Edward Kizer

I started buying my own clothes during the summer of 2016. I had just turned sixteen and I acquired a summer job at the Hyde Park Art Center. I was so excited to start my first job, not because I loved the work but because of the paycheck. I was ready to ditch Burlington Coat Factory and graduate to Hollister, American Eagle, and the holy grail– Abercrombie & Fitch. During that time in my life, I did not care about ‘best practices.’ I only cared about looking nice and being “cool.”

These days, I care a lot more about the brands I support and what/who they support. I’m twenty-seven and I’ve never had Chick-fil-a. I can’t pinpoint the exact moment, but I realized that there was power in my dollar and I intend to use it however I can.

I compiled a list [in no particular order] of brands that I enjoy and brands you should consider supporting.
